Just Filed my Candidacy

Yesterday evening, I officially filed my candidacy for the position Vice Chairperson for External Affairs of the Kalayaan House Council and attended the first candidates’ briefing.

The Vice Chairperson for External Affairs is the second highest position in the Council. I ran not because of peer pressure but my willingness to serve the entire Kalayaan body.

For now, I am busy for my General Plans of Action to be submitted tonight. An on-the-spot essay writing will follow the submission of our GPOA.

For the statistics, 26 candidates (out of 520 to 530 residents) ran for the six open positions.

I’ll keep this blog updated about the elections.

Good luck to me.

Tips on Taking UPCAT

Looking for UPCAT Tips? Here’s a compilation of UPCAT tips around the Internet.

Hey you, yes you reading this post. If you reached this post by Googling or Yahooing UPCAT tips, then you are on the rightest page on the Universe. If not, then you’re probably one of my loyal readers. :D

UPCAT or the University of the Philippines College Admission Test is the entrance examination to the Philippine’s one and only national university, the University of the Philippines. It is taken by thousands of graduating high school students who aspire to study in the prestigious University.

This year’s examination will be on August 2 and 3, 2008 — on different testing centers scattered around the country.

I know I am not the perfect person authority to write tips on taking UPCAT, but at least I passed the exam last year. Here are some simple yet useful tips on taking it:

  • For students from science high schools (like me), don’t review superadvanced lessons. Those topics are least probable to come out.
  • Don’t answer questions the way they are ordered. Try answering in random order. Some easy questions are scattered on the end part, especially in the Math part.
  • There are rumors that it is right minus (1/4) wrong. Try answering every question, if you get it wrong you get a 1/4 point deduction — meanwhile if you get it right you get a full point.
  • Read the stories in the reading comprehension as fast as you can. But remember, you should be able to understand them. The reading comprehension is one of the most time-consuming part.
  • Don’t bring too little or too many snacks. Chances are you’re gonna have a throbbing growling stomach or unexpected trips to the bathroom.
  • Have a great sleep! Be at your best shape and condition during the exam. This helps a lot.
  • Don’t overreview the night before the exams!
  • Take your time, but remember that it’s time bound. Don’t mind your seatmates. Most of my seatmates (those strangers) finished the different parts faster than I did — sadly I didn’t spot any of them here at UPD. Honestly, I averaged 10 unanswered question by the end of each part.
  • Familiarize the testing area in your Exam Slip. Do it at least a day before your examination. If not possible, try to go with someone who’s familiar with the place. This minimizes chances of getting lost.

Here are some of the topics (as far as I can remember) on last year’s exam:

  1. Basic Functions of Different Cell Organelles
  2. Simple algebra
  3. Some polynomial factoring
  4. Simple trigonometry
  5. Simple Electricity (V = IR; P = IV)
  6. Some rectilinear motion (free fall motion, a little projectile)
  7. Simple grammar and error spotting
  8. Triangles. Given two sides, identify the length of the third
  9. Some Earth Science

I hope it helps!

Good luck.

UP again, after two weeks

Hey, I’m back!

This blog has been down for almost two weeks and now I’m back to business. The downtime was a chain reaction of things — cause-and-effects.

The Nightmare

The root of all evil was the corruption of my blog’s database, which in turn resulted to abnormal behavior of my WordPress blog. The abnormal behavior ate lots of server memory which forced my  host to suspend me.

I asked my host to fix it for me but they were not well-knowledgeable about what was happening. I attempted to fix it a number of times, but I end up defeated by time. Gladly, I had a 3-hour CS11 (Computer Science 11) class last Friday — I was able to spend some time fixing it while answering my machine exercises.

Effects

The downtime hurt my blog much. Here are its adverse effects:

  1. A plunge of my RSS readers.
  2. A very big slice on my Google AdSense earnings.
  3. Exclusion of my pages to search engine result pages.
  4. Loss of potential earnings and opportunities.

Personal Updates

Now, let’s leave the blog. I’ll talk about myself.

During the almost half-month “blog hiatus”, a lot of bloggable things occured. Here are a few.

Computer Games

I now play computer games. Ever since elementary, I always hated computer games. I learned to love them, eventually. Here are the list of games I’ve played:

  • WarCraft Games
    • BattleShips
    • X Hero Siege
    • Pudge Wars
    • Ninja Duels
  • Battle Realms
  • Command and Conquer Generals
  • and a lot more LAN games.

I thought LAN games were lame but they were actually not. :D Wahehehehe.

The Trip to Malacañan Palace

Kuya Aethen invited me to join him in the Top Outstanding Students of the Philippines. The awarding was in the Rizal Hall, the Palace seen on the back side of a twenty peso bill.

I was quite disappointed when I saw Malacañan Palace ’cause it was a lot smaller than I expected. The Palace surely has a “Palace” aura. Almost everything inside was great, except for this small room we discovered which looked like a stock room. Here are some of my Malacañan pics.

Sorry for the poor resolution of the images, it was taken on my camera phone. :(

Conclusion

That’s all for now. I got to follow-up other things. I still have to work very hard to regain my rank in the search engine results page. :D

Erin Andrews Peephole Tape Video

Erin Andrews of ESPNErin Andrews Peephole Tape is still the talk of America!

It’s been more than a week since the Erin Andrews Peephole Tape video spread yet its still on volcanic hotness level!

This video was first seen on Dailymotion last February although it only got popular lately after she admitted that she was the girl on the video. ESPN and Erin Andrew’s legal counsel have been working hard to bring down all the videos. That’s why it’s very difficult for me to post it here since it’s kind of dangerous. Sorry cause I won’t be posting a link to the video in here.

Some information about Erin Andrews. Erin Andrews was Playboy Magazine’s America’s sexiest sportscaster for 2007 and 2008. She works for ESPN. She is highly respected for her wits, interest to sports and beauty.

For more information, you may check out Erin Andrews Peephole Tape video from Ambrosio Carlos.

The Loser Who Lost

Hello!

Yesterday evening, I just lost the Corridor Representative elections. The whole process took about three hours, more than two hours of which were spent for the presentation and interrogation of the candidates.

The presentation of vision and initial plans and integration was done a candidate after the other. I was the second one to present. While waiting and after my turn, I had the chance to have a heart-to-heart talk with my two other opponents. During our talks, there was no traces of uber-competitiveness. We talked just as we did before.

During my presentation, I was a little bit shy at first but eventually conquered it as my speech progressed. The usual questions were raised and I’m proud to have answered them wholeheartedly.

Honesty, I felt I was winning so there was little bitterness when I knew the results. I’m bitter of not getting the position, NOT because Polo got it. In fact, me and Polo ate the food we ordered together.

I lost the Corridor Representative position but had the Assistant Corridor Representative for External Affairs as a consolation. Wuhuhuhu.

I’m considering running a position for the Kalayaan Residence Hall House Council. I’ll promise to myself that no one will influence my decision of running. Weeee, exciting!

Anyway, during the integorration I’ve promised that I’ll have to change for the better if elected. Since I was not, therefore I won’t. Hahahahahahahahahaha. Tuloy ang ingay ni Mikko!

[made this post right after the elections.]

Corridor Stuff

Sorry guys but I have to drown you with some boring dorm corridor stuff.

About a week ago, I have signified my intention to run as a corridor representative for Basement Boys in Kalayaan Residence Hall (dun nagsimula ang Eraserheads). To date, only two of us, I and Polo, have confirmed our candidacy. Juan is still hesitant to run — still have not confirmed his intention.

Honestly, this is my second time to run for an elected position. The other one as a vice president for the dorm council back in Pisay but I was not serious back then. :D

Just this day, a neighbor from the adjacent room did a very noble act for me to the point he annoyed me. He made 15 campaign posters for me and posted it on almost every wall of the corridor, floor’s comfort rooms and stairs. His act of fooling around embarassed me, that is how I feel on my very part.

Here are some pictures of the campaign posters:

A Publicity Committee member signing the poster for posting.

The Poster as seen from outside the dorm.

I am not angry to anyone, I am just annoyed of the fact that he posted such a number of posters without my prior knowledge.

I am still running for the position for the information of everybody. I promise not to be a victim instead a victor of circumstance,

The Math17 First Long Exam

Yesterday, I was not able to attend my Math17 class since I was still in deep slumber the entire period. My classmates who were in the class were able to see their Math17 first long exam grades.

Since I consider two consecutive absences a mortal sin, I attended my Math17 class today. I was uhm, ten minutes late. They were already discussing the answers of our first long exam when I came in. I immediately grabbed my blue book (it’s a blue book where we place our answers) and checked my score.

The score reads “41 = 82%”. Waaaadaaafaaaaa—, yehey!! I was quite confused how to react. Should I be sad of the results or be happy of it. I was not able to compare my score with my other classmates so I did not have a benchmark on how I performed.

I know for a fact that my parents read my blog :D (Hehehe). Honestly, I did not know how to react mainly because I’m confused if I should be very happy for getting such a score without much effort or if I should be sad for missing out nine points of the exam. I did very little preparation for the exam. The only preparation I could consider is the fact that I tried to answer my roommates first long exam (which was relatively easy compared to ours and other classes’). I did not bother opening my notes since they were too neat that nothing is written on them. Since high school, I heavily relied on my photographic and auditory memory ’cause I love listening more than copying notes. For all of my life I hated copying notes!

Nine points were just nine points. Nine points is just 18% of the total number of items. Nine points is negligible. I did well on my exams, I think.

Amf! I am, again, rationalizing. Well, it’s nice to know that I rationalize to reduce my guilt. Oh yeah, I did some preparations for the exam. I should be sad of the results — I studied for the exam, at least. I answered another class’ first long exam before my exam. Yeah, I should be sad.

Wahahahahaha, who said I hated crapping around my blog. This is my blog anyway.

Go Mikko — you did well on your Math17 first long exam. You deserve it!

:D

Did this post right after my Math17 class.
