Beware: Side effects of Blogging
Blogging is fun, right? But beware, excessive and addictive blogging is dangerous for student bloggers like me. See how my blogging preoccupation affected my grades.
Here’s a portion of my report card, click to see the fullview:

Interpretation
Our grading system is a stanine system in which the grade 1.00 is the highest while the lowest attainable grade is 5.00. The passing grade is 2.50 therefore a grade lower than 2.5 (e.g. 2.75 or 3.00) is considered as a substandard grade.
From the figure above, you can see that I am a consistent UNO student for my elective. Anyway, my elective is Embedded Systems (electronics using microcontrollers). I’m also a consistent 1.25er of Computer Science, go CISCO! Most of my other subjects went down, huhuhu.
Rationalization (defense mechanism)
FYI: I always get low grades because of assignments and lab reports. Luckily, Computer Science and Embedded systems subjects seldom have those. I did not submit a single assignment for the third quarter. I have submitted less than half of all third quarter lab reports for Chem, Bio and Physics. What more do I expect, a failing grade right?
On Math 5′s case in which I got a substandard grade, I lost my exercise notebook and repeated all the exercises a day before the exam. I only got less than half correct answers for my repeat exercises cause I was lazy enough to answer them all in a limited time.
Now, that’s the effect of losing control of your preoccupation. Beware: blogging can give you a failing grade.
Bragging Part
My adviser always emphasized in my card that I was a really smart boy, just too lazy to pass a subject. Here’s a cap of my teacher’s remarks:

Again, it’s on the learning NOT the grade. I believe I’m a lot smarter than most of my classmates. Actually, got a very high mark on my NCAE’s GSA (general scholastic aptitude) where I got a 99+.
Here’s an inventory of my 99+ (GSA):
Scientific Ability: 99+
Reading Comprehension: 98
Mathematical Ability: 99
Verbal Ability: 99
LESSON LEARNED: Just like vices, do it in moderation.
I promise to do my assignments, once in a while.

Try to do things in moderation and your grades might not suffer.

Here’s my unsolicited advise. Studies should be your priority and blogging should only be a hobby and should be done on your free time after you’ve done all your schoolwork.
Sorry if I may sound like your mom or dad but trust me, been there done that. Although I did well in school and am doing well now, I still wish that I studied and spent more time studying when I was high school and college. All the best to you and your studies. God bless!

Hi Kuya Jaypee.
I’m gladly accept your unsolicited advise. I know it was my fault. Now, I abstain from blogging once in a while and indeed, my grades are boosting up again. To date, all my Math quizzes and exercises are in perfect form (100%). Go 1.00!

Thank God I’m not having much problem except for being late every morning for my first class considering that I’m starting to post on my blog regularly. And also, I’m thankful since my classes are just every MWF. =)
Jaypee is right. You should prioritize your studies first over blogging. Or make a schedule of all the things you need to do in a day or week, and allocate a certain time to blog or post a new topic.

Miss ko na tuloy ang Pisay. Know what? Yang isang substandard grade mo, wala lang yan sa lahat ng substandard grades na nakuha ko noon.Kaya OK lang yan.
Trust me, your grades have little, if any, bearing on the kind of person you’ll become. Tsaka pag nag-college ka na, pumili ka lang ng course na hindi nagrerequire ng lab reports (in my case, I suck at Biology, kaya ako nag IE), and you’ll be singing your way to a _____ Cum Laude award!
