UnPLUG Precinct Mapping Party

Our organization, the University of the Philippines Linux Users’ Group, had a precinct mapping party for the upcoming May 10 elections last May 3, 2010 at the UP Computer Center. Those who were not able to make it to the venue mapped simultaneously with us in remote locations.

The goal of the mapping party was to map as many unmapped polling precincts (for the May 10 elections) to help our kababayans in finding their precincts in the upcoming elections.

Anyone may help in this Find Your Precinct initiative by Google.

iBlog 5: the 5th Philippine Blogging Summit

Exactly one week ago, bloggers from all over the Philippines gathered at the University of the Philippines Diliman for iBlog5: the 5th Philippine Bloggers Summit.

iBlog is an annual gathering of bloggers to discuss state of blogging in the country and other sorts of stuff. There are also lots of informative talks, both for new and old bloggers.

This year’s iBlog is more successful in terms of attendance. I met a lot of new bloggers but unfortunately I was not able to remember all of their names and URLs.

That’s it. My very short and boring iBlog post.

Happy Birthday U.P!

Yey, today is the University of the Philippines’ birthday. UP is now officially a hundred years old!

The day was filled with lots of activities. From a flag-raising activity to Oblation Run. Unfortunately, I was not lucky enough to grab one of the 200 tickets in store for the College of Engineering for the night event at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

The only activity I have witnessed today was the Oblation Run. (more…)

Mindanao Blogger Summit 1 Wrap Up

Yesterday was the first ever Bloggers Summit in the Philippines, the Mindanao Bloggers Summit 1 held at 4th Floor NCCC Mall, Davao organized by the Usual Suspects. Thank you very much for that, it was very very very successful. Thank you for the prizes, I got an IBM Notebook and a web hosting plan.

I arrived the mall at about 10:30pm. I went directly to the 4th Floor, checked the summit area and saw a lot of adults there. I was already in front of the registration desk, still feeling the anxiety (takot na hindi makarelate). I heard the voice of kuya Migs from outside and they were about to sing the National Anthem. I backed out on my first attempt, went back down. (more…)

I’m Attending the MBS1

MBS1 Badge

Yes, I’m attending the 1st Mindanao Bloggers Summit.

Earlier this month, I posted that I can’t attend the summit. But now, I’ve decided to cancel my e-competition registration at GenSan just to attend the summit.

Kuya Abe Olandres of Yugatech will be there. I’m a regular reader of his blog and I’m looking forward on seeing him in person.

I’ve already posted the required post for registration on my old blog, right here.

That’s all for now and see you guys!

Sazerac Anemos | Science Camp 2007

Tomorrow’s gonna be our Science Camp 2007, and we’re pretty busy right now. I’ve been very busy making our subcamp’s ID.

Our subcamp is Sazeroc Anemos, our element is wind, color is white (dirty white or cream).

So I’ve got a sample of our IDs, this one is mine.

 Sazerac ID

Here’s a brief fictional history of Sazerac Anemos:

In the beginning, Gaea was mother to all the elements but the air. The earth had its trees. The sea had its creatures. But everything though was dull! Still. Lifeless. Dead.

There was nothing between them. So, Gaea thought to herself, “Such pitiful childrem I have. Great though they are but meek do they become for they live only by themselves and by themselves alone.” At this, Mother Earth knelt and and wept, “What greatness do I, the sea, behold the mountains I cannot move, when shores I cannot embrace?” “What greatness do I, the earth, behold when my trees cannot dance, when my eagles cannot soar?”

At that, Gaea bore another child. She beholds, “Here is your brother, ANEMOS — humble, gentle, and kind. It is he who will kindle the waves of your waters, it is he who will stir your trees in joy. It is he who will lift your eagles high. It is he who will be my blood, the current through which your brotherhoos will be enkindled.”

Anemos asked, “What greatness do I have when I am in no one’s sight, when I cannot even be seen?” Gaea replied, “You, my child, have the grace to touch lives. You will roam the earth, bridging every gap, fondling every soul. You will not be seen but you will be felt. You are an invisible force, an unseen power, a rousing influence. You are SAZERAC ANEMOS!
