So it’s a long weekend, so more time for blogging! Damn, I forgot to send the list of research materials to Tomi.

Yes, more time to blog. So my goals for this LOOONG weekend are:

• to create a new blog theme,
• to start blogging on a specific niche,
• and to make at least 5 posts (not including this one), in which 2 of them will be a future (scheduled) post.

Today, I didn’t spend a lot of time blogging as I expected. Me together with my cousins went to my late uncle’s resort, Brod Louie Resort at Glan, Sarangani Province. I have posted about this resort more than a month ago, you can check it out on my post Weekend Trip: Glan, Sarangani Province.

Before I jump out of the topic, I want to jump in back to it (hahaha). So DabawPinoy blogged about the summit, and I have a special part on his post. Hahaha.

I arrived the mall at about 10:30pm. I went directly to the 4th Floor, checked the summit area and saw a lot of adults there. I was already in front of the registration desk, still feeling the anxiety (takot na hindi makarelate). I heard the voice of kuya Migs from outside and they were about to sing the National Anthem. I backed out on my first attempt, went back down.

Keynote Speech: Blogging and Participatory Governance

After some while, I went up again and finally I registered. I was the 28th to register, with the ID 0028. I did not know anyone of them, so I random picked a table. I tried to talk with my seatmate, that was ate Dulce. I introduced myself, and she introduced herself too. I asked her URL, it was http://dulcenegosyante.com/ (sounds like she’s owning an e-store). We had a small chat. That time, Davao City Councilor Peter Laviña was having his keynote speech (Blogging and Participatory Governance). It was nice, he cited some cities and states which used blogging for participative governance.

After the speech, there was a raffle of two IBM notebooks. It was light and extra sleek. I did not win that time, but there were still a lot of goodies.

Blogging in Mindanao: Travel & Technology

The next speaker was Mr. Bob Martin. He was born at Slovania and is staying in Mindanao for 5 years. He owns the Mindanao.com, LiveinthePhilippines.com, [luzonvisayasormindanao].wowphilippines.com/[cityorprovince] and a lot other proPhilippines travel blog. He owns 150 websites, but he personally maintains 6. He has his own web server on the States and he is hosting kuya Blogie of the Usual Suspects. His speech was on Travel and Technology. He showcased his travels all over Mindanao. He keeps on traveling cause the more he travels the more he earns! Nice, like Sports Unlimited’s Marc Nelson and Diane Castillejo!

After his speech was a Promote-Your-Blog filler. I volunteered to promote my blog, kapal talaga ng mukha but it was fun. After that was another raffle, now two IBM pens. I still didn’t win but Kuya Aethen did! That was the time when I recognized him, then moments later they transferred with us (me and ate Dulce).

Socio-Cultural Mindset of the Mindanaoan

Then it was Fr. Albert Alejo, SJ’s turn for the Socio-Cultural Mindset of Mindanaoans. It was nice and contentful even though it was not that lively. He showed statistics on the reality in Mindanao. He also presented the music video “Meme na Mindanaw”. I don’t think if I’m allowed to post this so I’ll just give you a link to the video at YouTube.

Free Lunch and this English Guy

Then, it was lunch time. Yey, it was a surprise FREE LUNCH for everyone courtesy of Dimsum Diner. Everyone was hapy with the meal cause its free. While eating, this pretty weird slang guy from England dropped by our table. He asked one of us, “whachuduwin?”. At first we didn’t understand but we eventually did. He talked a lot about his company and asked our email address. The only words I can understand from him were open source and outsourcing, he ate the other words! He asked about the programming languages we use, then he told me he start programming at 6. Damn, I started at 10! When he left, ate Dulce and I broke up laughing!! Pasaway na bata!

After lunch, there was a Google Video Presentation by ate Aileen, not sure in this part cause I just based it on the program.

Transition from “Emo” to Niche Blogging

Then it was ate Kim Castillo of Southisms‘ time to speak. She discussed on “Transistion from Emo to Niche Blogging”. I agree to here that only your closest friends would read very personal blogs! Who cares about your life, right? It was interesting and very true.

Then another raffle again, now it’s kuya Ayel (Ariel Lalisan) who won something. Can’t remember what he won.

Surprise by Matt of Wordpress

After which (according to the program) was the Surprise part! You know Matt of Wordpress? He knew about the summit so he sent a video message to us. He also sent us t-shirts but it didn’t make it on time. Maybe next week.

Then it was kuya Jayvee Fernandez‘ turn. He talked about Problogging and new media. He compared the earnings of print publishers and bloggers. Based on his presentation, probloggers get more money and more free time to do the things they want. Pretty interesting! His presentation was nice, Mac effects! Anyway, he owns A Bugged Life.com and the technology channel editor of b5media, a top blog network.

Supposed to be How to Optimize Your Wordpress Blog for Top Search Rankings

Another raffle round then it was Marc Macalua of Macalua.com who also works or owns the SEO Philippines. He was supposed to speak on How to Optimize Your Wordpress Blog for Top Search Rankings but he left his presentation in Manila so he talked about some SEO stuff. Still interesting, he also brought up benefits of IT related work, with the rates.

MBS1 Resolutions, nice one!

Then the “Presentation of Summit Resolutions: The Role of Bloggers in Fostering Understanding & Peace in Mindanao“. The resolution was nice and it is yet to be posted on Mindanao Bloggers. I agree with the resolution and I promise to always keep in mind my love for Mindanao. I LOVE MINDANAO, yeah! Mindanao is the best!

Then they gave out Google bags with lots of freebies. Then it was the Pick Their Brains:
Session with A-List Bloggers part. Everyone can ask anything about blogging to any of the A-List Blogger. The A-List bloggers were Abe Olandres, Andrew dela Serna, Bob Martin, Marc Macalau and Jayvee Fernandez. Questions ranged from rights of bloggers to the payment of tax. It more-or-less smooth forum. I had some questions in mind but I didn’t mind to ask them. ;D

Also, kuya Jayvee Fernandez of A Bugged Life first publicly announced their new localized web advertisment agency. They’ll be launching it by next week hopefully and its not in the web still. We have signed up through paper. What’s nice about it is it is a pay-per-view scheme, not pay-per-click unlike AdSense.

After the program was a picture-taking and autograph signing session. We were like celebrities there, everyone wanted to have a picture and autograph of everybody. It feels nice, plus its a form of bonding. I also asked kuya Marc Macalua for an autograph, I tried the other A-List bloggers but they were talking to each other. Kuya Marc also gave me his calling card and asked me to send some of my works to him cause they’re looking for a copywriter. Neat, huh.

Then, after the autograph and picture-taking, we strolled the Davao Trade Expo. There we saw a booth of Indonesia. We took pictures with the Indonesians and we enjoyed it. There were also a lot of free taste booths there so we really had fun.

Fun Part

Kuya Blogie treated us for dinner, so we went with them.

We ate our dinner just in front of the Bloggers Fellowship Night the Casa Habana, which was Pinutos. We ate our meals there then after dinner we went back to Casa Habana.

Someone from SEO Philippines treated us one bottle of drinks. Yeah, I got one in front of the camera. Anyway, no one’s gonna see aside from the bloggers.

The entertainer was sort of fun. I enjoyed it, even though it was NOT FOR KIDS. Medyo strict ang parents ko, NIDO everyday parin dapat. Hehehe.

So how’s my domain’s first month?

It was indeed a busy day. Our research group had our panel defense in the morning, I missed two classes anyway lucky enough it was considered excused absence. Then in the afternoon we had to revise it and submit it back to our research adviser. We submitted it before 5pm, then our adviser returned it about 5:30pm for another revision. We had to revise it again so me and one other groupmate had to stay late on the internet cafe. The revision took us hours, so that means little sleep for me again. Then this morning, we submitted the revised copy. Our research adviser adviced us to have another minor revision, so we revised it again.

How’s that? Three revisions in less than 36 hours! Yeah, that’s for the love of Regional Intel Science and Engineering Fair.

A little trivia: Since the start of the week, the earliest time I went to bed was 1am and the latest was 3am. Hahaha. I’m a little stressed now.

Also yesterday, I backed out for the Physics Quiz Bee. Why? Uhm, the Science Fair Congress was simultaenous with the Quiz Bee and only the team leader can speak during the Congress. I want to be the team leader so I sacrificed my Physics career. Anyway, I know our research study more than any PHYSICS concept. In fact, I can construct our circuit without the schematic diagrams and assembly programs!

I’m bragging again and no one can stop me. ;D

Mindanao Blogger’s Summit 1

I’m attending the Blogger’s Summit tomorrow. I was supposed to go home to GenSan today as most of the GenSan dormers did but I preferred to stay for the Summit.

I am pretty anxious now. I don’t know who to go with during the summit. I’m afraid to end up in front of the registration without registering! You know that feeling of anxiousness, you don’t even know if you’ll go or not on the last minute.

I’m also afraid I’ll be the youngest in the Summit and be left behind their mature conversations. Waaa, help me please.

I’ve read Batang Yagit’s article on Preparing for the Mindanao Bloggers Summit 1. Read it before you go.

Another trivia: I’ll be staying here in Davao till Sunday morning. I only have PhP474.00 in my pocket. So here’s my budget:

• PhP 20.00 for my Netopia bill (I’m currently blogging here at Netopia).
• PhP 20.00 for my fare back to the dorm.
• PhP 20.00 for my fare to NCCC tomorrow for the summit.
• PhP 100.00 for my haircut. (I’ll have my haircut before the Summit starts)
• PhP 70.00 for my lunch (skipping breakfast)
• PhP 50.00 for my dinner (small dinner)
• PhP 20.00 for my fare to my grandfather’s house (sleeping there tomorrow)
• PhP 10.00 for my fare to the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal
• PhP 165.00 for my bus fare back to GenSan.

I’m so poor now. Waaaa!

Yes, I’m attending the 1st Mindanao Bloggers Summit.

Earlier this month, I posted that I can’t attend the summit. But now, I’ve decided to cancel my e-competition registration at GenSan just to attend the summit.

Kuya Abe Olandres of Yugatech will be there. I’m a regular reader of his blog and I’m looking forward on seeing him in person.

Hi everyone. Still not sure if I can attend the 1st Mindanao Blogger’s Summit, but I really want to.

I have already asked permission from my parents, they eventually agreed. But my number 1 problem is the conflicting schedule with the e-Business Week e-competitions at General Santos.

I’m joining the e-Competitions together with some of my Davao batchmates (plus another fellow GenSan batchmate). They’re joining the 3D AutoCad contest. Three of us will form a team for the Java/C++ programming challenge, and I’m also going for subprofessional speed typing and web page development.

The GenSan event is on October 26-28, MBS1 is on 27. Too bad. I have registered on both events but would probably cancel one of them.

I’ve just started developing a PHP web application yesterday. Got to discuss about it on my official release. I coded everything, no copy pastes. I’ve coded it in an internetless laptop, so no place to copy a code.

I had trouble withdrawing from my DBP (Development Bank of the Philippines) account at One Network Bank (Megalink) a while ago. It took me about 9 attempts before I successfully did it. I got tons of Timeout errors, maybe because of the crappy connection in a such remote place.

PinoyBlogero’s Pinoy of the Blog Month’s poll should have started today but there are still no updates from kuya Carlo’s site. The random 20 finalists are not yet released, I hope I’ll be on the list.

Today’s my third time this week to blog on an internet cafe. Surfing the web is still better at home, even if its dialup cause you have the full freedom, no computer restrictions.

According to DreamHost, I have only used 0.153 GB out of the 4216 GB bandwidth provided. Not a percent. The time period for the 0.153 GB is 16 days, so that’s about 10MB per day.

As I’ve said on my previous post, we’re going to a beach resort in Glan, Sarangani Province in Philippines and we surely did.

I had a nice weekend, now not in front of my old-school CRT monitor. I enjoyed the entire afternoon till evening with my grandma, aunts, uncles and cousins. I love these days, the latest ones we had was like on my uncle’s burial and my aunt’s wedding.

So expect a lot of pics after the jump (thanks to my ate’s camera phone). It’s not that complete, still have to upload the pics from my cousin’s digicam.
