Disclaimer: This post could be very boring for some, forgive me. I won’t stop myself from posting this as this is my blog anyway. I own it, I pay for it — and the sweetest part I earn from it.
Five days to go before the Kalayaan Residence Hall Association House Council Elections – four days left for campaign.
As I’ve said on my previous post, I am running for the position of Vice Chairperson for External Affairs. Some of the functions of the Vice Chairperson for External Affairs as stipulated in the Association’s Constitution are: to assume Chairperson duties in case of the Chairperson’s absence or disability to perform his/her duties; to represent Kalayaan Residence Hall Association on meetings, forums and other events that has direct participation to the Association and many more. It’s the second highest position in the Council, next to the Chairperson.
Last Friday to Saturday (9pm of Friday to 10pm of Saturday), we the candidates attended a grilling activity by the Election Committee. The grilling activity is a 1 vs Election Committee close-door activity). Each one of us were grilled for at least 30 minutes (some had it for more or less an hour). Waiting was like hell as only one candidate is grilled at a time. In my case, I waited from 9pm to about 5:30am. The fun part while waiting was that we had the chance to bond with other candidates — including our “enemies”! Wahehehe. But honestly, most of us did not take our “political enemyship” (what a term!!) personally. I won’t explain what happened inside the grilling room as I don’t want to spoil the experience to the next year’s candidates (who know’s they might read this!). The reactions to the grilling activity were diverse — some cried, some did not, some went crazy, etc. But to sum it up, it was very helpful. It made us realize a lot of things — practical things we should know in leading.
The next Election-related activities in line are the Handshake Activity, Campaign Talk, the Miting de Avance and finally the August 8 elections. I’m very excited for it. Wahehehe. Below is my campaign poster. 
During the filing of our candidacies last July 29, we were tasked to submit with our Letter of Intent and one-page General Plan of Action together with our Certificate of Candidacy. Here’s a transcript of the General Plan of Action I submitted.
GENERAL PLANS OF ACTION
Creation of a special press release committee. A special committee mandated to produce press release on residence hall activities shall be organized, if none exists. according to the Election Committee during the grilling activity, the committee already exists. 
The special committee shall also be mandated on the proper dissemination of press releases to outside parties.
Community awareness on the existence of Kalayaan Residence Hall. Community awareness on the existence of Kalayaan Residence Hall shall be increased. This shall be done by organizing activities which aims to reach out to the neighbouring community and/or implementing projects for the welfare of both the neighbouring community and the residents. The activit(y/ies) to be organized shall also promote the development of the well-being of each resident.
Increase Web Presence of Kalayaan Residence Hall. Web presence of Kalayaan Residence Hall shall be increased through a residence hall blog/website. This shall be useful in the residence hall activities and in the dissemination of press releases and activity documentations. With enough web traffic, the blog/website can be monetized. The possible funds produced shall be turned-over to the treasury of the House Council for programs and projects.
Sponsorships/Solicitations. Ask sponsorships and solicitations on dorm activities from outside parties. Through sponsorships and solicitations, better dorm activities may be produced.
Centralized Information Dissemination System. A Centralized Information Dissemination System shall be produced. This shall embody a systematic way on the dissemination of information through the word of mouth, written means, hierarchical means (from the Executive Board to CorRep to Corridor Residents) and new technologies (web). An open-source SMS gateway shall also be used in dissemination of important and/or emergency announcements that requires rapid dissemination.

I believe everything I wrote was feasible considering the length of term and present situation. As you may have noticed, I did not post anything about specific activities, projects or anything. My justification for this is that I still don’t exactly know what the Council can afford to implement and not. I believe activities and projects should undergo a feasibility study (cost, value, effect) before its implementation.
Also, I’d like to make it clear that I ran because I believe I can do the duties of a Vice Chairperson for External Affairs and that I have something to offer to Kalai. I did not run because I was forced to do so (niether got convinced by somebody).
