The Unright Time

I am writing this offline. It is exactly 4:05am. In a dark room. In a silent place.

For the past few days, I was used to waking up by around this time. It is quite unusual for a person like me – but I did it. I did it, for the love of Y4IT. For the love of an event I always wanted to participate in since I was in high school. Blame the very early volunteers’ call time.

Y4IT is the Philippine Youth Congress in Information Technology, an annual event organized by the University of the Philippines Information Technology Training Center. It is the dubbed as the country’s biggest IT event, consistently breaking the last year’s record. The most recent one was held last September 2 to 5, 2008.

So yeah, Y4IT! I have been very busy for the past few days. There’s Y4IT, Kalai House Council, Math17 and the the supposed-to-be-held-yesterday CS11 exams. Add my other GE (General Education Subjects). What a busy week. Waking up at around to 4 to 5am, report to the Y4IT registration booth by 6 and do some volunteer work till 5pm — leaving the booth only during scheduled classes and short breaks.

Some disposition check. House council-wise, I wasn’t really active during the entire week. I can’t remember a significant stuff I made for the council. Academics-wise, I was still able to attend classes. Still on the pace of my GE subjects. So-so in my Math17 — fortunately I had ample time to review the lessons before our third long exams. Y4IT volunteer-wise, I was active.

Now, I am learning to manage my time properly. My body managed to live with only very little sleep. Honestly, I did not have the feeling of giving up — it’s just my body that’s complaining. The nice thing is that – UPITTC never failed to feed us during the Y4IT. There were lots of food in store for us, lots of carbs and protein.

This morning is the most-awaited WordCamp Philippines 2008 – the first WordCamp in South East Asia. Matt Mullenweg, the lead developer of WordPress, is in the country for the event. I don’t think I’m coming, but I’d like too. It’s up on my body to decide. My body’s thinking of getting some enough rest as of the moment, amf!

I, shifting a topic, in the middle of this rant post is odd. But I have to do this.

Zorro is one of UPD’s (University of the Philippines in Diliman) mysteries. He is this man roving around the campus in his superhero costume. A guy with a sword, a cape (the Philippine Flag), knee pads and other superhero accesories. Others claim that he’s crazy, but he actually looks (and feels) like one.

During Y4IT, Zorro hanged out in front of the event venue. Some participants, particularly from other school, was trying there best to stay out of him. But I decided to do the latter. I went near him, and heared him ranting stuff about the Government, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and other stuff.

Personally, I was quite intimidated by his English skills. He spoke English better than I did. He was way more fluent than I am. I found him very interesting as he was very smart, really smart. I also heard from another an acquaintance that he was also good in Math (can still remember Calculus). My acquaintance also claimed that he was once invited for a talk and spoke well — did not speak senseless stuff as crazy people would do.

Zorro has may respect now. I’m very interested on knowing him more, maybe for an interview. My weekend goal is to find Zorro and have a documented interview with him. I’d be posting it on my blog, in case I’ll succeed on my goal.

Lastly, last night I watched Pisay for the first time. The movie was great. I prejudged it as a campus-biased (biased on the Main Campus) movie significantly focusing on the Main Campus culture. My prejudice was not right. There were some experiences there that I can relate to — we both refered to the dorm as a cage, had the same dillema of being limited to a Science and Technology related course at very young age, cafeteria experiences, etc. The movie had a very strange effect on me. I can’t understand why the last part struck me.

That would be all for now. I’m going back to my sleep. :D
